The power of bioconversion through a tiny insect
E Farm Biotech is dedicated to transforming food waste into valuable resources using Black Soldier Fly technology, contributing to a sustainable future for Hong Kong.
In 2018, our journey started with a small farm at Hok Tau, Fanling, where we experimented building a sustainable ecosystem that integrates BSF rearing with aquaculture and agriculture. More than just a farm, E Farm was also a vital education hub, demonstrating how food waste could be the catalyst for a greener future.
Today, we have evolved that vision into an industrial reality. Founded by Mr. Chan Ka Ming, E Farm Biotech Limited envisions to spearhead Hong Kong’s circular economy through advanced BSF bioconversion, transforming commercial food waste into high value resources. We are committed to make "Zero Waste" a reality for our city.
Hong Kong generates 3,200 tonnes of food waste daily, equivalent to 250 double-decker buses. Yet, 80% still ends up in landfills. According to Audit Commission’s reports, while the Organic Resources Recovery Centre upcycles food waste into energy, its inconsistent byproduct quality hinders a true circular economy. E Farm Biotech bridges this gap, utilizing advanced biotechnology to transform waste into high-value resources.

With support from HK Recycling Fund and HK Tech 300 Angel Fund, E Farm Biotech operates at a 10,000 sqft facility in Sheung Shui. We aim to build Hong Kong's most efficient food waste conversion centre, providing a viable outlet for the city's organic waste.
We are committed to the UN Sustainable Development Goals, embedding environmental awareness in every aspect of our business
Through BSF bioconversion technology, we convert waste food into high-value resources.
By diverting food waste from landfills, we mitigate methane emissions and significantly lower the carbon footprint of Hong Kong’s agricultural sector.
Replacing fishmeal with insect protein to reduce overfishing and protect marine ecosystems.
Developing high-quality organic fertilisers to improve soil fertility and promote sustainable local farming.
We were delighted to host Day and Siumai at our Sheung Shui facility! Siumai, who majored in environmental conservation, led viewers through the prospects of Hong Kong's food waste recycling. Under founder Ka-ming's guidance, we explored how BSF upcycles food waste. This is not just a tech tour, but a record of young people's passion for dreams and sustainability.
